Black Rock Senegal, Artist Residency Open-Call for Applications 2025

About Black Rock Senegal

Founded by artist Kehinde Wiley in 2019, Black Rock Senegal is a multidisciplinary artist-in-residence program located on the northwest coast of Dakar, Senegal. Named after the volcanic rocks along its shore, the residency hosts international artists for 1–3 month stays to foster new artistic creation and influence global discourse about Africa.



How to Enter

Applications open annually for individuals over 18. Applicants must submit a cover letter, CV, and a portfolio via the portal, adhering to guidelines. There is no application fee. Portfolio requirements vary by category: Painting, Photography, Textile, Film, Sound/Performance, Mixed Media, and Sculpture. Each "Project" submission must include images/files with titles, creation years, and descriptions.


What Residents Receive

Residents receive accommodation, meals, and individual studios, along with access to shared facilities such as a library, gym, sauna, pool, and gardens. A stipend is provided for supplies and cultural activities.
